The whole life costing course is a part of the SCQS Whole Life Costing Service and is aimed specifically at those needing a working appreciation of whole life costing and for those who need a refresher. This 10 part programme has been carefully compiled for easy learning with questions and answers at appropriate stages. The target time to complete the course is 15 hours although clearly individual time will vary.

At the end of the course you will be able to:

• Define whole life costing.
• Understand the principle of present value.
• Understand the principles of discounting.
• Understand the importance of the study period and the time zero base date for the whole life cost calculation.
• Structure the problem and manually.
• Construct a simple option appraisal model structure the problem and construct a comprehensive and complex option appraisal model using the SCQS WLCS.
• Appreciate the sources of data for whole life costing.
• Be able to conduct sensitivity analyses.
• Be able to use the measures of economic performance in option appraisal.
